Dr Margaret Nkrumah was Principal of the SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College, Ghana (SOSHGIC) (1990–2008) and Vice President of SOS Children’s Villages International, Austria (2008–2012). She is now Chairman of the Board of SOSHGIC and Chairman of the Board of Lead for Ghana (LFG). She is also a member of the African Leadership Academy (ALA) in Johannesburg, and a member of the Committee to Teach About the UN (CTAUN), New York. Nkrumah was first a teacher and Assistant Headmistress of the Ghana International School (GIS) for over 10 years, then taught for seven years in Zimbabwe, before becoming the Founding Principal of SOSHGIC. Nkrumah's contribution to education has been recognised by an Honorary Doctor of Laws from her alma mater, the University of Leicester, UK; an Honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana; and by two National Awards for services to children and education – a National Children's Day Award (2002) and a Presidential National Award (2008), Order of the Volta (Companion) Ghana. An ardent Pan-Africanist, Nkrumah is also an advocate for vulnerable children and women’s rights across Africa.
